FTC Wants Higher Do-Not-Call Registry Fees

The Federal Trade Commission has proposed raising fees for access to the National Do-Not-Call Registry to $56 per area code, with a maximum fee for 280 area codes capped at $15,400 annually. The first five area codes would remain free.

The Federal Trade Commission has proposed raising fees for access to the National Do-Not-Call Registry to $56 per area code, with a maximum fee for 280 area codes capped at $15,400 annually. The first five area codes would remain free.

Presently the fee is $40 per area code with maximum annual fee capped at $11,000.

The new fees are scheduled to become effective Sept. 1, following a public comment period running through June 1. Telemarketers are required by law to use this list to purge calling lists of all individuals who wish not to receive telemarketing calls.
