Financial Updates: Sport Supply Group, Brookstone, PC Mall

Quarterly top-line and bottom-line results from direct marketers Sport Supply Group, Brookstone, and PC Mall

· Sport Supply Group, a direct marketer of sports equipment to institutional buyers, reported net sales of $65.5 million for the three months ended March 31. That’s an increase of 2.8% from the comparable period of last year. Net income fell 8.5%, however, to $3.2 million, due primarily to $1.1 million in costs related to its pending acquisition by an affiliate of ONCAP Management Partners.

· Gadgets cataloger/retailer Brookstone increased its first-quarter revenue 13.5% over last year’s, to $69.7 million for the three months ended April 3. It also managed to shave its net loss from $27.4 million to $23.4 million for the quarter.

· First-quarter sales for computer reseller PC Mall were $289.9 million, up 12% from the first quarter of last year. Nonetheless, net income tumbled 80%, from $1.0 million last year to $0.2 million, due in part to the depreciation of the U.S. dollar against the Canadian dollar and costs associated with layoffs announced earlier this year.
