Celebrate Express, which sells birthday party, costumes and accessories and merchandise for girls’ special occasions, had reason to celebrate itself after its third quarter results were tallied. The Kirkland, WA-based online retailer and cataloger reported net income of $521,000, up from $233,000 during the third quarter a year ago. Its net sales rose to $16.3 million during the quarter, a gain from the $12.6 million it saw earlier.

Much of this revenue gain came from new customers. Repeat customer accounted for 49% of its business, and the company attracted 110,000 new customers during the quarter. Celebrate Express increased its selling and marketing expenses by more than 41% between the quarters.
