Two brothers from Brentwood, CA and a former Santa Clara County sheriff's lieutenant convicted of taking more than $3 million from Bay Area residents in a police charity telemarketing scam will spend years in prison, according to the Contra Costa Times.
Santa Clara Superior Court Judge Paul Bernal sentenced George Kellner to six years and four months; Matt Kellner to 11 years and four months; and Armand Tiano to 17 years and eight months.
The trio organized a scheme for donors to contribute to fictitious law enforcement charities -- such as "the Police Benevolent Fund & Youth Foundation" and the "the Police & Sheriff's Athletic League Community Fund."
They ran allegedly ran telemarketing "boiler room" operations, putting about 20 callers each in offices in San Jose, Los Altos and Mountain View, CA.
