A management reshuffling at America Online placed COO-elect Bob Pittman at the helm of the Internet unit, Reuters reported. Pittman took over from Barry Schuler, who will lead a new division devoted to developing interactive products.
The moves were geared to address the weak advertising market while preparing AOL for future broadband developments, such as streaming music, the report said.
Pittman is the AOL Time Warner co-chief operating officer. He is due to become the sole COO in May. He had been at the helm of AOL before the AOL Time Warner merger.
