AOL Appoints Brand Manager

America Online named Leonard Short as vice president of brand marketing, against a backdrop of cost-cutting and restrucuring.

Short will oversee domestic and international marketing efforts for the beleaguered online unit of AOL Time Warner. He will handle advertising and media, promotions and overall brand management. Short will be based at AOL’s Dulles, VA, headquarters.

AOL Time Warner chief financial officer said on Friday that AOL will undergo dramatic belt-tightening this year, according to the Washington Post. Jobs will be cut and marketing expenses will be reduced, he told a West Coast press conference. The company remains committed to bolstering AOL over the long term.

Short was formerly executive vice president of advertising and brand marketing at Charles Schwab & Co. Previously, he was president at Worldwide 1 on 1, a New York direct marketing agency.
