Green, Auto Sites See Big Growth in July

According to the latest figures released by comScore, Green and Auto Manufacturer Web sites saw big gains in July, thanks to the government’s “Cash for Clunkers” program.

The top gaining site category by percentage month-to-month change in unique visitors in the U.S. in July was Green, as it attracted 17.5 million visitors during the month, reflecting a 15 percent increase from the 15.2 million it attracted in June.

Toys saw the second-biggest month-to-month growth as its audience grew to 18.6 million, reflecting a 14 percent increase from its 16.4 million visitors in June.

Auto Manufacturers also saw 14 percent growth, as its audience in July grew to 27.1 million visitors from 23.9 million in June.

Consumer goods saw its audience grow 12 percent to 22.1 million in July, up from 19.7 million in June.

Incentives also saw 12 percent growth as its audience grew to 14.9 million, while gay/lesbian sites saw 11 percent growth as its audience increased to 3.6 million in July.

Politics (11 percent), teens (10 percent), e-cards (10 percent) and beauty/fashion/style (10 percent) also saw big growth in its unique visitor count in July.

Google Sites remained the top Web property in the U.S. during the month of July, attracting 158.8 million unique visitors during the month.

Yahoo! Sites was second with 156.5 million visitors, followed by Microsoft Sites with 129.3 million and AOL LLC with 104.8 million.

Facebook was fifth with 87.7 million unique visitors, followed by Fox Interactive media with 80.9 million, the Ask Network with 79.3 million, eBay with 73.1 million, Amazon Sites with 66.5 million and Wikimedia Foundation Sites with 62.1 million.

Its fifth place finish for the month was Facebook’s highest ranking on the list. Answers.com rose five spots to finish at 26 on the list of the top 50 properties.

Meanwhile, Twitter climbed up the list to finish the month with 20.1 million unique visitors and the 42nd spot on the list.

AOL Advertising (formerly Platform-A) remained at the top of comScore’s Ad Focus Ranking list, reaching 91 percent of all 195.5 million unique visitors in the U.S.

Yahoo! Network finished second on the list with an 88 percent reach, followed by ValueClick Networks with an 83 percent reach, Google Ad Network with an 83 percent reach, Yahoo! Sites with an 80 percent reach and Specific Media with an 80 percent reach.

Google jumped from 10th to 8th on the list with a 77 percent reach in July.
