Lead-generation firm Datran Media has acquired e-mail service provider Skylist, it was reported yesterday.

Lead-generation firm Datran Media has acquired e-mail service provider Skylist, it was reported yesterday.

Skylist’s founder and president, Josh Baer, will reportedly stay on as Skylist’s chief technology officer. The company will remain in Austin, TX.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Datran’s clients include JPMorgan Chase, AOL, Sprint Corp. and USA Today. Skylist’s include eDiets.com, babytobe.com and Boston.com.

Datran was also a Skylist client.

New York-based Datran last made headlines in March when it agreed to pay $1.1 million to settle New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer’s Internet team’s investigation into Datran’s e-mail marketing deals with a company called Gratis Internet.

Gratis is the parent company of such sites as FreeiPods.com, FreeGiftPlanet.com, FreeDVDs.com and FreeVideoGames.com.

Spitzer’s office claimed that Datran knowingly sent millions of messages to Gratis’ e-mail list in violation of the privacy promises made to consumers when Gratis gathered their names.
