Royal Mail Names Greene CEO, May Revive Privatization

Royal Mail Group has named Moya Greene chief executive. Greene, currently president/CEO of Canada Post Corp, will take up the post in the middle of July.

Greene has been CEO at Canada Post since 2005.

She has also been managing director, infrastructure finance at TD Securities Inc. and senior vice president, retail products at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and senior vice president, operational effectiveness at Bombardier Inc.

Before that, she worked in the Canadian government for 17 years in various capacities including as assistant deputy minister, policy, at Transport Canada. There she was responsible for the privatization of CN (the Canadian National railway), the deregulation of the Canadian airline industry and the commercialization of the Canadian port system, according to Canada Post.

Her appointment comes at a time when Royal Mail is apparently trying to revive its plans to privatize, or at least partially privatize itself, now that a new government has taken office, according to reports.

Last year, the Communication Workers Union, the labor group representing a majority of Royal Mail employees. threatened to strike, partly over plans to privatize the country’s postal delivery operations. Click here for more http://directmag.com/postal/1106-postal-royal/index.html

But now, the union is vowing to fight any new attempts at privatization saying in a statement that such a move has no public mandate and is likely to put the U.K.’s post offices at risk.
