The cover of the Fall 2009 catalog from lingerie retailer Frederick’s of Hollywood spotlights a Sexy Superhero costume ($49) a la Wonder Woman with the copy, “Show Off For a Costume Party. Or a Private Party.” A few pages of the 60 page slim jim book are devoted to outfitting Halloween. Other items include provocative outfits like Blazing Fire Fighter ($49), Major Hotte ($49) and Foxy Flapper ($49). Aside from costumes, the book offers Frederick’s usual collection of intimate apparel. Examples include shapewear, bras, and panties like the Seamless Hourglass Slip ($38), Tuxedo Pinstripe Satin & Lace Bra ($29), and Cross Dye Jessica Boyshort (4 for $25). Free shipping is offered on orders over $95.
Military Times Offers Knife and Sock Premiums
Military Times Media Group recently mailed a bright yellow subscription offer featuring two premium incentives. The front of the package reads: “Subscribe today and receive a FREE pair of military boot socks – plus, a Kodiak folding Knife as a bonus gift!” Subscription is for one of four titles, Army Times, Navy Times, Air Force Times, or Marine Corps Times. A full color “Itemization of Benefits” shows the two gifts, alongside a list of editorial features and subscriber benefits, including updates on pay and equipment as well as subscriber only web content and e-mail newsletters. The voucher describes the “redesigned newspaper with expanded branch of service news coverage” and an expanded section on off duty activities as “All New!” A subscription to one publication is offered for $19.95 for 26 issues. EZ-Pay is offered for automatic renewal. Previous offers from the publisher have offered premiums such as a multi-tool, binoculars, and reference magazines.
Kenetrek Targets Rugged Hunters
Montana-based boot retailer Kenetrek mailed its 32-page Fall & Winter 2009 catalog targeting serious outdoor enthusiasts. The 5½” x 8½” book mainly consists of various hunting boots, along with moccasins, hunting apparel, accessories, and other outdoor essentials. On the inside cover, the catalog defines the brand name: “(ken-uh-trek) - To have knowledge of a difficult journey.” The letter from the company’s president follows, beginning: “The only thing we enjoy more than developing quality footwear for sportsmen is testing these products ourselves.” As most products are designed to be used for backcountry hunting expeditions, the product testing is described as rigorous. Testimonials from customers underscore the boots’ traction, comfort, and durability. One customer goes so far as to say that “Kenetrek boots are worth their weight in gold.” Featured products include Hardscrabble Hikers ($300-$305), Mountain Safari Boots ($305), Hunting Gaiters ($59.95) and Bobcat Zip Boots ($150-$165).
