Spanish Agency Shackleton Nabs Diamond ECHO

Madrid-based agency Shackleton has won top honors in the Direct Marketing Association's annual ECHO Awards.

Shackleton won the Diamond ECHO for a nonprofit campaign for client Fsc Inserta, for the "Capable" campaign. The awards were presented during a ceremony at the DMA:2010 conference here in San Francisco. "Late, Late Show" host Craig Ferguson presided over the ceremonies, where 93 awards in total were presented.

Of the nearly 1,000 campaigns submitted for this year’s ECHO honors, 16 campaigns were honored with Gold, 38 with Silver, and 39 with Bronze. In addition, eight campaigns received special awards.

Howard Draft, executive chairman of Draftfcb, who was inducted into the 2010 DMA Hall of Fame, earlier in the day, helped kick off the evening, noting that the difference between the ECHOs and other creative awards was that the ECHOs honor measurable marketing.

"I love the metrics," said Draft. "It's beautiful when the numbers come in."

In the past, many general agencies saw direct marketers as "the barbarians at the gate," he said. "They were obviously right."
