Yellow Book Seeks to Break NYC Directory Monopoly

Yellow pages publisher Yellow Book USA, Rockville Centre, NY–saying it will offer better advertising rates and break one of the last remaining yellow pages monopolies in the country–is entering the New York market by publishing a Manhattan Yellow Book directory.

“Manhattan businesses are paying some of the highest yellow pages advertising rates in America because Bell Atlantic has a stranglehold on the market and its consumers,” Yellow Book USA chairman and CEO Joe Walsh said in a statement. “Today, that monopoly ends.”

According to Walsh, Manhattan Yellow Book advertisers will realize savings of up to 50% in what he says is a $100-million advertising market.

Yellow Book USA publishes more than 280 yellow pages directories in New Jersey, Long Island, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. The company plans a multimillion-dollar advertising and direct mail campaign to reach the more than 100,000 businesses in New York.
