Wireless e-mail accounts will grow from 12 million in 2006 to 199 million in 2010, representing an annual growth rate of 103% during the next four years, according to the Radicati Group.
In 2006, less than 1% of active e-mail addresses will be accessed with a wireless e-mail device, but by 2010, nearly 8% of active e-mail boxes worldwide will be, the technology research firm predicted.
The worldwide market for wireless e-mail products and services, which was nearly $4 billion in 2006, will grow to almost $19 billion in 2010, the Radicati group predicted.
In other projections, the Radicati Group predicted the number of hosted e-mail boxes will double from 1 billion in 2006 to nearly 2 billion in 2010.
The group also predicted the installed base of instant-messaging accounts will grow from 933 million in 2006 to 1.474 billion accounts worldwide by 2010.
