The Sportsman’s Guide Inc., the outdoor cataloger based in South St. Paul, MN, reported a net loss of $167,000 for the quarter ended March 31, significantly narrower than the net loss of $922,000 for the same period last year.
For the quarter, the company reported sales of $38.9 million, an 8% increase over the $35.9 million reported for the first quarter of 2000. The firm attributed this to higher Internet-related sales which accounted for approximately 20% of total sales in this period compared to approximately 13% of total sales a year ago.
Catalog sales were virtually flat when compared to the same period in 2000, despite a 25% planned reduction in catalog circulation.
