VNU Business Publications is closing its trade magazine Point of Purchase and has terminated the majority of employees working on the title.
The May issue will be its last. One aspect of coverage, P-O-P advertising at retail, will be rolled into sister publication “Display & Design Ideas”.
Publisher Murray Kasmenn noted growth in market share but declining pages forced the closing of the magazine.
“The economics of it all, it just didn’t work,” he said. “The market was shrinking and the decision was made to close it down.”
Murray said that as of now, the Web site remains active and continues to focus its coverage on P-O-P advertising.
Five employees were terminated, including two editors, a marketing director, an art director and one account executive, said managing editor Julie Andrews, who was one of those terminated.
Point of Purchase magazine, based in Roswell, GA, debuted in 1995 and had circulation of 19,500.
