U.S. Home & Garden Inc., San Francisco, has acquired E*Garden Inc., the lawn and garden Web site. Terms were not disclosed.
U.S. Home & Garden Inc. makes and markets a range of consumer lawn and garden products–its brand names include Weedblock, Weed Wizard, Ross and Tensar. The company said it wants to become the leader in the sale of high margin niche garden products on the Internet.
It added that it does not plan “to aggressively offer our current retail products through our Internet operation, but rather to build a stand-alone e-commerce business offering special products to a targeted demographic group that will permit us to become the category leader.”
Toward that end, it intends to acquire direct marketers it believes are the best businesses to leverage their existing customer base into Internet sales, U.S. Home & Garden said. The company has reached a previously announced agreement to purchase Gardenside Ltd., a patio and garden furniture cataloger.
