Privacy seal program Truste, San Jose, CA, has released privacy practice guidelines for companies undergoing mergers, acquisitions and bankruptcies.
The guidelines include the following provisions: *Mandated third-party oversight: The transfer of personal information requires third-party oversight as an important check against the demands imposed by creditors.
*Consumer notice and choice: Opt-in methods are recommended t o retain the full value of a customer database and extend trust to new users. The guidelines describe various methods for giving consumers notice and choice.
*Privacy policies must be honored: The same privacy promises a company makes while in business, must be honored when going out of business. Both the buyer and seller have an obligation to the customer to honor these practices.
The guidelines will be posted on Truste
