Tiffany and Co. posted a 9% decline in profits in the second quarter, but sales in the direct marketing division rose 12% to $38.75 million.
For the three months ended July 31, earnings were $32.71 million, down from $36.05 million a year ago.
Sales were $374.4 million in the second quarter compared with $371.3 million last year.
There were improvements in the direct division. For the second half of the year, direct sales rose 11% to $72.6 million. Combined catalog and Internet sales rose 27% in the second quarter and 32% in the first half of the year.
