Target: Small Law Firms

Martindale-Hubbell, the venerable publisher of the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, has turned to the Internet to attract more small law firms.

Legal Services by Request is a service on the publisher’s Web site (www.lawyers.com) that lets consumers search for free to find an attorney. Consumer request forms are sent by e-mail to the appropriate attorney through a system set up by Respond Networks.

For firms that have between one and 25 lawyers, the benefit of the service is that it delivers qualified leads, without telephone calls that interrupt a lawyer’s day.

Visiting salespeople do most of the selling, backed up by informational direct mail and e-mail. Those individuals seal the deal.

The directory publisher is thrilled with results. Now heading into the second year of operation, some 3,500 customers have signed up, paying $360 a year for the service
