The Talbots Inc. plans to consolidate telemarketing operations in Knoxville, TN and Tilton, NH, following the imminent closure of its call center located in Hingham, MA.
With the closure of the Massachusetts center, Talbots said it would be eliminating 150 jobs in catalog sales and customer service. Affected employees will be eligible for severance pay and job outplacement services.
“The decision close our Hingham call center was difficult but necessary to streamline operations, as part our integration process with J. Jill and increasing numbers of customers choosing to shop directly from our Web site,” said in a statement Arnold B. Zetcher, Talbots’ chairman.
All positions in corporate customer service and direct marketing information systems will remain located in the company’s Hingham, MA headquarters.
