Taco Bell Kicks Off Anti-Hunger Campaign with MTV Celebs

Taco Bell is jump-starting its second annual anti-hunger fund-raising effort with stars of an MTV reality show doing a cameo appearance at one of the fast food chain’s Los Angeles restaurants next week.

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt from MTV’s “The Hills” will be in a Taco Bell at 1604 La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles for three hours on Oct. 2 to plug the “Reality Check Challenge,” which will encourage Taco Bell patrons to make donations of $1 or more to The World Food Program.

The initiative is part of a larger hunger-relief effort by Taco Bell parent Yum Brands Inc. to raise money to fight world hunger. Last year, Taco Bell and Yum restaurants raised $16 million in the worldwide initiative.

P-O-P signage will make Taco Bell customers aware of the campaign, and they’ll receive $1 coupons they can post in the locations to indicate their participation.

“We’re trying to collectively beat our goal last year,” said Taco Bell spokesman Rob Poetsch. “In addition to raising funds, we also want to raise awareness.”

The MTV celebs also made a three-hour appearance last week at the Los Angeles Union Rescue Mission to serve food to hungry and homeless people in the area. Taco Bell made a $15,000 contribution to the mission on behalf of the reality show stars.
