Staples Inc., Framingham, MA, plans to open a distribution center in Stockton, CA, this summer. The operation will serve multiple channels–contract, catalog and e-commerce customers.
The 111,150 square-foot facility will have the ability to be expanded to more than 177,840 square-feet. Initially, the distribution center will employ 40 people.
“The new center will help us better serve our customers in the northern California and Nevada markets, and allow us to provide more efficient, localized service,” Joseph G. Doody, president of Staples Contract and Commercial division, said in a statement. “By moving to a multi-channel distribution strategy, we will be able to deliver the highest quality of customer service while reducing our distribution overhead costs.”
Recently, Staples signed a lease for a multi-channel distribution center in Charlotte, NC, to service the Southeast. The office supply retailer said several other existing distribution centers will be converted to serve multiple channels later this year.
