Sports Leagues Represented at Macy’s Parade

The National Football League, is for the first time, sponsoring a float in Thursday’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and athletes from the Woman’s National Basketball League and Team USA will appear, also for the first time, on other floats that will travel down Broadway in Manhattan.

The NFL Thanksgiving Classics float includes turf, bleachers and a super-sized living room. Youth football players and mascots representing all 32 NFL teams will ride the float, as well as NFL legends Tony Dorsett, Lomas Brown, Joe Namath and Harry Carson. Dorsett and Brown will represent NFL annual Thanksgiving Day game host teams Dallas and Detroit respectively, while Namath and Carson represent the New York Jets and New York Giants.

Meanwhile, WNBA players and Olympic gold medalists Sure Bird and Swin Cash will ride on the United States Postal Service Spirit of America float. Other gold medalists aboard the float include track and field members Justin Gatlin and Shawn Crawford, volleyball’s Misty May and gymnastics’ Carly Patterson.

American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino is scheduled to appear on the Spirit of America float.

The annual parade attracts more than 60 million viewers in the U.S. and 3 million spectators lined up along the streets of New York.
