Simon Property Group is out with an interactive gift card designed to bring a piece of Olympic fever to shoppers.
The mall company has partnered with Visa USA and Coca-Cola to launch the card, which features a CD-ROM with access to bonus Olympics footage, music, ringtones and coupons from Olympic sponsors. People also gain access to the Coca-Cola Amazing Moments Web site, a Simon hub of promotional and Olympic Games-themed information.
The limited edition, prepaid cards are sold in denominations of $20 to $500 at the Guest Services Center in malls or online at http://www.simon.com/giftcard.
In all, about 100,000 gift cards will be available at 185 Simon Mall locations nationwide. One dollar from each gift card will support the U.S. Olympic Committee, an organization that helps American athletes train and compete in the Olympic Games.
“This is a unique way to bring the spirit of the Games to customers in Simon Malls across the country, while providing them with all the benefits that Visa gift cards have to offer,” Steve Diamond, senior business leader, prepaid products, for Visa Inc., said in a statement.
The gift card is part of a larger marketing campaign called, “The Gift That Takes the Gold,” designed to promote Coke’s and Visa’s 2008 Olympic sponsorships.
The program also features Coca-Cola Olympic Games-themed vending machines, which trigger a game. People who buy any 20-ounce Coke product from a machine will receive a prize after exchanging their purchase for an Olympic Ring Gold Medal scratch off “Amazing Moments” game piece. Prizes include Olympic-themed digital items from Coke and $25 Simon gift cards, among others.
