John Costello has been appointed as chief global marketing officer at Yahoo Inc., Sunnyvale, CA. Costello had been senior executive vice president of Sears, Roebuck & Co. for five years. Since then, he was president of AutoNation Inc. and CEO of MVP.com, an Internet sporting goods company.

YesMail has packaged its customer retention solution into a five-part methodology called SmartStart and offering it at a reduced price to new customers. Pricing is based on clients’ needs. SmartStart includes analysis, strategy and execution of an e-mail campaign. YesMail is based in Chicago.

New clients to 24/7 Real Media get two months free ad serving if they switch from competing ad-serving solutions to 24/7 Connect, the New York company’s ASP ad management system. The special offer is available through the end of December. 24/7 Real Media had been known as 24/7 Media until its merger with Real Media last month.

DoubleClick Inc., New York, is adding rich media-enabled ads to its media network of more than 1,700 sites. The company has also launched a new shaped pop-up ad unit that creates an ad in the form of an individual brand image, logo or product.
