Observers are lauding the Senate’s passage of a four-year reinstatement of the moratorium on taxing Internet connections but once again called for a permanent ban on such levies.
The Senate voted 93-3 to restore a ban on taxing Internet connections for four years, but stopped short of the permanent ban approved by the House.
“We are pleased that the Senate has passed this important legislation,” said Jerry Cerasale, senior vice president, government affairs for the Direct Marketing Association. “The U.S. has slid to sixth place in Internet-usage worldwide. This legislation will help bring America back to the vanguard of this burgeoning vehicle for commerce, communication, and education.
