Reader’s Digest, Hasbro Team Up For Book Promo

Reader’s Digest Children’s Publishing and Hasbro Properties Group plan to publish and distribute books in the U.S. and Canada based on Hasbro’s Tonka brand.

The books, which will hit retail stores this spring, will showcase the Tonka Tough action the brand has built its reputation around for more than 55 years.

The new line of books will include Tonka Board Books: Super Concrete Mixer and Busy Dump Truck, both which will retail for $7.99. The Super Concrete Mixer book will let kids explore places concrete is used—from the plant where the mixer picks up the load to its use making in an in-ground pool. The cover will feature real sand to illustrate concrete pouring down a chute.

In Busy Dump Truck book, kids can visit dump truck sites, including a coalmine, lumberyard and road construction site. The book cover will include a three-dimensional dump truck with a moving part.

In addition, Reader’s Digest and Hasbro Properties Group will release the Tonka Sound Book: Construction Zone. The book, which will retail for $15.99, will let kids hear and see what it’s like to be on a construction site. The sound book features construction zones at a school playground, an airport runway and a sports stadium, among others. Three vinyl-molded trucks include dumping, lifting and moving sounds.

Reader’s Digest Children’s Publishing has released a number of board books, novelty books and hardcover storybooks based on Hasbro properties since 2002, including Transformers and Mr. Potato Head.

“Reader’s Digest Children’s Books have done a fabulous job of translating Hasbro’s most beloved brands into engaging stories that delight children and caregivers,” said Tom Klusaritz, HPG’s VP-licensing for the Americas, in a statement. “Tonka trucks have been a childhood rite of passage for generations, and Reader’s Digest’s line is another excellent way for caregivers to pass this tradition down to children.”

Simon & Schuster distribute Reader’s Digest Children’s books, which will be available through retail and online bookstores nationwide.
