Post Cereals Plays Baseball Roster

Kraft Foods is running a slate of Major League Baseball promos for its Post Cereals division this summer.

Starting this month, fans can buy a dual-pack that bundles Fruity Pebbles with Golden Crisp and puts an Upper Deck lenticular trading card on each box. Cards feature MVPs Ken Griffey Jr., Miguel Tejada, Ichiro Suzuki, Barry Bonds, Jason Giambi and Sammy Sosa. The cereal boxes are shrink-wrapped together with trading cards on the front of each box.

The promotional pack overlaps with a $10 million in-pack flight that put Major League Baseball-themed CD ROMs in 40 million boxes (Xtra, May 20). Another 11 million boxes carry bobblehead dolls in-pack, featuring 10 ball players. Five are new this year; five are repeats from 2002, the first year that Northfield, IL-based Kraft put MLB bobbleheads in-pack for Post. New players are Griffey, Curt Schilling, Torii Hunter, Troy Glaus and John Smoltz. A 15-second TV spot via Ogilvy & Mather, New York City, supports; Kraft handles the promos in-house.
