JEWEL-OSCO:

Chicago, joins the Savings Plus Direct-to-Consumer Network that distributes samples and coupons via packages of store-brand baked goods. DSD Communications, Stamford, CT, says its network reaches 5 million households, projected to grow to 12 million by 2004. Jewel (owned by Albertson’s) brings another 191 stores to the system. Kellogg, Unilever North America, Kraft Foods, Kimberly-Clark, ConAgra, Campbell Soup Co. and General Mills have used Savings Plus for co-op or brand-specific programs.

CRACKER BARREL OLD COUNTRY STORE: has named Chris Tomasso VP-marketing. He will direct all aspects of the company’s marketing efforts and overall brand strategy. Prior to joining Cracker Barrel, Tomasso spent more than six years with Orlando-based Hard Rock Cafe International, most recently as VP-worldwide marketing.
