New Balance Celebrates Centennial Via Racing Contest

Athletic footwear manufacturer New Balance is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a series of races around the world and a contest that will send runners on to compete in the Chicago Marathon.

The Boston-based company is searching for elite athletes from 50 races around the world who can best represent the brand and its goals. To qualify for the Global Centennial Team contest, participants must register online for one of those races and complete a 100-word essay that describes the impact New Balance shoes has made on their lives at NBteam100.com. More than 500,000 athletes are expected to participate in the races.

A panel of judges will select runners based on their essay responses. Two runners from each race (100 in all) will win a trip to the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon in October to represent New Balance on the New Balance Global Centennial Team. The grand prize includes airfare, hotel accommodations and a New Balance Centennial Race Team gift bag.

RPMC, a Calabasas, Ca-based entertainment marketing and promotions agency, handles travel promotions and contest administration.

“We’re taking this occasion to remind those for whom running is a passion that it is our passion as well, and to recognize that community of runners for their valued support,” said Karin Piscitelli, marketing promotions manager at New Balance, in a statement.

The contest is open to consumers 21 and older and runs through Aug. 31. Online materials support.
