Neiman Marcus May Put Itself Up for Sale

The Neiman Marcus Group Inc. said Wednesday that it was exploring the possible sale of the company, but that this process may not come to fruition.

The Dallas-based direct marketer and retailer noted that it doesn’t expect to talk about this unless or until its board of directors approves a transaction. The firm has hired Goldman Sachs & Co. as its financial advisor.

Neiman’s direct marketing operations include the Neiman Marcus, Horchow and Bergdorf Goodman catalogs and online units.

Last November, Neiman sold off the Chef’s Catalog to Pikes Peak Direct Marketing, a new firm controlled by private equity company JH Partners LLC. The catalog has annual sales of $75 million. (Direct Newsline, Nov. 8, 2004).
