First, let me express my appreciation for naming ATD-American Co. as one of your Market Leaders for 2000 (“A Quiet Rise to the Top,” Nov. 15, 2000). But I’d like to clarify a couple of misimpressions that may have been created.
Although the article implied that I’m no less than largely responsible for ATD-American’s success, the fact is I’m only one of three brothers (Jerry and Spencer are the others) who have worked together for more than 50 years. Operating as a triumvirate has been a great source of strength, virtually ensuring that the best decisions are always reached. Consequently, our team approach spreads to our staff of almost 200 associates.
With respect to the second possible misimpression, which may arise as a result of our unwavering commitment to print catalogs: The underlying ingredient responsible for our growth for the past 70 years has been our recognition of changing paradigms. We’ve taken significant steps to construct a Web site unparalleled in the industry. And plans are virtually completed for a content management system that will coordinate print catalogs with the site. Arnold Zaslow Executive Vice President ATD-American Co. Wyncote, PA
