Mississippi 27th State to Sue Publishers Clearing House

Mississippi became the 27th state to sue Publishers Clearinghouse. The suit claims the company uses false advertising in mail pieces to senior citizens.

Attorney General Mike Moore reportedly filed the suit after talks with company officials failed to stop mailings promising millions of dollars in return for a magazine subscription. He told reporters the mailings trick seniors who can least afford it. The suit seeks refunds for consumers and penalties and legal costs.

Similar suits were filed by 17 other states early this week. Nine additional states had already filed suits.

Calls to Publishers Clearing House were not returned by press time.
