Maxell Corp. of America marked its second consecutive sponsorship of ESPN’s X Games 13, held last weekend in Los Angeles, with a sweepstakes contest and on-site giveaways, including seven branded skateboards.
Maxell’s “Max Out with Maxell Media” sweepstakes, which ends Sept. 1, offers the winner an exclusive trip for two to next year’s X Games 14, a package worth $20,000. Contestants can register for the contest via mail with the purchase of Maxell DVD-R, DVD+R and CD-R media products in 800 Best Buy outlets around the country. The package includes two round-trip, first-class airlines tickets and a four-night stay in a five-star hotel in Beverly Hills.
On-site X Games attendees tried their luck on a spinning wheel to win Maxell CD and DVD recordable media packs and Maxell headphones. Maxell also raffled off seven customized Maxell skateboards in flaming red, orange and white.
The target demographic for its X Games promotion is 13 to 24 year-olds, said Cheryl Severini, Maxell senior marketing manager.
“The Maxell brand has always stood for performance and X Games is the ultimate performance event,” Severini said. “This makes it a perfect partnership for us.”
Last year, Severini said Maxell ran a very successful retail promotion with Best Buy. Maxell is considering an extension of its X Games sponsorship depending on this year’s results.
