Law firm Manatt, Phelps & Phillips will merge with litigation boutique Parcher Hayes & Snyder, beefing up Manatt’s roster of entertainment clients and its litigation expertise. Los Angeles-based Manatt brought over 10 staffers from Hall Dickler Kent Goldstein & Wood in November after merger negotiations between the firms fell through (Nov. 6 and Nov. 11 Xtra).
Twelve Parcher attorneys join Manatt, bringing its New York City head count to 56. The merger takes effect Jan. 1, 2004.
The Hall Dickler group, led by partners Linda Goldstein and Jeffrey Edelstein, brought expertise in promotions, advertising, telemarketing (especially for financial services) and privacy that dovetails with Manatt’s entertainment and intellectual property practice. The addition of Parcher’s litigation skills rounds out Manatt’s strong class-action litigation practice in California, whose statute (which doesn’t require consumers to prove injury) draws suits against national brands. marketing-related services.
“There’s so much consumer class-action litigation against promotional devices, such as gift cards and continuity programs,” says Manatt partner Goldstein. “This [shift from Hall Dickler to Manatt] lets us provide another important service for clients.”
