InfoUSA, Omaha, NE, had net income of $6.3 million in first-quarter 1999, a turnaround from a first-quarter 1998 net loss of $1.1 million. Sales for the quarter were $55.5 million, virtually unchanged from $55.4 million in first-quarter 1998.
The most significant difference between first-quarter 1998 and first-quarter 1999 statements was in the elimination of almost $8.5 million in acquisition-related and restructuring charges recorded in first-quarter 1998.
In a statement, the company announced plans to commit cash generated by its core business into its Internet division, InfoUSA.com, increasing the revenue generated through Internet advertising and e-commerce. Revenue for database sales and licensing agreements via the Internet were $9 million during 1998. The company also announced that Susan Slevin was promoted to VP, Internet design and development.
