International Business Lists (IBL), an information-services supplier, has acquired the assets of Infonational, the white-pages compilation unit of Equifax. The cash transaction was finalized this afternoon, sources said.
The purchase will result in a new source for marketers, and new competition for infoUSA and Acxiom, the only other core white pages compilers.
Prior to today’s sale, Infonational had functioned as an internal cost center at Equifax. Atlanta-based Equifax acquired the unit last year as part of R.L. Polk’s consumer information business. Polk purchased Infonational roughly five years ago.
Chicago-based IBL will now bring to market more than 108 million consumer listings, and over 28 million business listings, all compiled from U.S. white pages.
Infonational has roughly 55 employees in facilities in Orem, UT, and Heredia, Costa Rica. The sources said there would be no loss of jobs.
Steven Chudliegh, a co-founder of Infonational, will serve as general manager of the white pages compiling unit.
IBL also offers a national business-to-business database, and several B-to-C compilations, including listings of new parents, newlyweds and consumer bankruptcies.
