While it is still too early to pop the champagne corks, direct mailers can at least bring the bottles up from the cellar. Postal reform may finally be on the way.
The House Committee on government Reform unanimously approved the Postal accountability and Enhancement Act of 2004 late Wednesday, the first postal reform bill to get this far in 30 years, according to the office of co-author Rep. Tom Davis (R-VA). It could be taken up the floor by the end of June.
Despite the fact that it is stilled not viewed as business-friendly as a draft now being mulled in the Senate, the bill approved yesterday is more agreeable to mailers than the version floated earlier this month.
