Hanover Direct Inc. generated record online sales during the Christmas 199 holiday season, the firm said yesterday.
While numbers have not been fully tallied, the Weehawken, NJ-based cataloger reported that one out of every ten transactions it conducted this season was generated via the Internet. That ratio increased to 1 to 5 in the case of the Undergear catalog.
In addition, more than 3.4 million consumers have visited Hanover’s 14 brand sites, since Thanksgiving. Online brands include Domestications, The Company Store, International Male, and Kitchen & Home.
Expecting fast delivery, online shoppers placed their deliveries closer to Christmas day, according to CEO Rakesh L. Kaul. “This pattern more closely parallels the trend traditional seen at retail of consumers shopping at the last minute,” he said in a statement.
Home furnishings experienced higher online demand this year, as did items associated with Christmas and the Millennium, the firm said.
