Hanes, the apparel sponsor of Passionately Pink for the Cure, is running a T-shirt design contest to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Participants create the shirts for a chance to win a weekly drawing for a $100 Hanes gift card. One grand-prize winner will receive a $250 Hanes gift card and a screen-printed copy of the winning T-shirt design.
“Passionately Pink-inspired T-shirt Designs” runs through Oct. 26.
The T-shirts can be created online where a variety of tools and graphics are available to help make the designs. A text function allows users to send friends and family a tribute message or a personal note.
Each week throughout the contest, the first 30 participants will receive a T-shirt from actress Sarah Chalke, a Hanes’s spokesperson, who has kicked off the competition with her own Hanes T-shirt design which includes the words “courage and strength” above her signature and features pink hearts alongside the iconic pink ribbon for breast cancer awareness.
Finalists, identified on Nov. 11, will receive a $100 Hanes gift card. Twelve finalists will then be featured online where visitors can vote for their favorites.
As part of the deal, Hanes will make a $5,000 donation in the grand-prize winner’s name to his or her choice of Susan G. Komen for the Cure local affiliate or Komen global headquarters.
At retail beginning in September, Hanes is offering a special pink collection of panties, bras, socks and graphic tees (including one T-shirt exclusively designed by Chalke). Some of the items are also available.
A dedicated Web site works to inspire people to support breast cancer awareness and research.
In a related effort, public service announcements about breast cancer awareness began airing in July. The ads feature Chalke, the star of the television show “Scrubs” and mini series “Maneater”. She will attend Komen events and host her own “Passionately Pink” parties with her sisters and friends.
