New York’s Grand Central Terminal will be transformed next month into a tennis club to celebrate the 117th Championships at Wimbledon.
The three day event, July 1-3, is sponsored by Tennis Magazine and British Airways with Rolex Watch USA. Grand Central’s Vanderbilt Hall will be recreated into the All-England Lawn Tennis Club, with visitors experiencing side court at Wimbledon.
Artificial grass courts, player seats, display towers, court walls, bench logos and Wimbledon merchandise will set the stage. Matches from Wimbledon will be broadcast live via ESPN and NBC. Visitors can test the speed of their serves at interactive stations for a small donation to charity. A New York version of strawberries and cream-cheesecake will be served.
Visitors can also test out British Airways flat bed available in business class. Rounding out the events will be a palace guard, an English telephone booth and afternoon tea.
Synergy Sports, Ocean, NJ, is setting up the court installations and the visual experiences. Alan Taylor Communications, New York City, handles p.r. Some print ads support.
