Ford Motor Co. could have received top product placement for its soon to be released 2006 Ford Fusion sedan by placing it in an Eminem music video, but said “no, thanks” to the rapper when it learned more about the song featured.
The video and lyrics for Ass Like That was not an appropriate place for Ford to voluntarily place a vehicle, Ford spokesman Dave Reuter said.
Reuter said it is not atypical for an artist to request a vehicle to use in a video, and that Ford initially agreed to work with fellow Detroiter Eminem.
“We thought the Fusion would be a nice fit for Eminem,” Reuter said. “But when we got a little closer and saw the title of the song, we decided it wasn’t exactly a great fit.”
Ford has already tied music with the Fusion, partnering with Cingular for a current series of “flash concerts” (Xtra July 19). Details, including cities, dates and venues for performances by The Roots, Jermaine Dupri, Fat Joe, Yellowcard, Pete Yorn and five other musical acts are only available via email and text messages once visitors register as an “insider” at Fusionflashconcerts.com or by texting “go” to 35274.
