FDA Cracks Down on Mail Order Drug Marketer

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has accused mail order pharmacy Rx Depot Inc. of illegally running a storefront operation to import prescription medicines from Canada and selling them here, via mail order and the Internet.

At the same time, the Arkansas Board of Pharmacy has ordered Rx Depot to shut down.

The FDA’s letter follows its recent notifications that businesses engaging in practices like those used by Rx Depot are at risk for legal action.

The Lowell, AR firm vows to fight the FDA’s action in court.

According to news reports, the FDA has beefed up its crackdown on such companies as RxDepot which have sprouted up over the past few years. These firms often make misleading assurances to consumers about the safety of their drugs, and often come from foreign countries other than Canada.
