Family Dollar has named Donald Smith as vice president of marketing.
In his new role, Smith will oversee and direct the discount chain promotional planning and advertising programs. In addition, he will play a key role in making Family Dollar stores a “more compelling” place to shop, the company said.
The post took effect Nov. 5.
Smith replaced Samuel Bernstein who was recently promoted to vice president, general merchandise manager health and beauty aides.
Previously, Smith worked as vice president, sales and marketing, for Perrigo Nutrition. He has held similar positions at General Nutrition Centers and Nabisco Foods Groups.
Family Dollar operates more than 6,400 stores in 44 states.
