EXECUTIVE HEADS ROLL AT KMART

Bankrupt Kmart Corp. is biting into the executive ranks with its latest round of job cuts, including laying off Steve Fueling, senior vp-marketing and the former chief marketing officer of its Bluelight.com online business last week. It is also planning to lay off up to 1,000 employees at its corporate headquarters.

The retailer is evaluating its senior management team and will axe up to 35 percent of senior level positions, according to the Detroit Free Press. Titles on the chopping block range from Senior VP to Division VP.

With Troy, MI-based Kmart expecting to come out of bankruptcy by April 30, the mass retailer has trotted out several new campaigns (many overseen by Feuling) such as the coupon and sweeps-driven Savings Are Here to Stay to try and keep customers shopping(PROMO XTRA. Jan. 21) and an ethnic marketing push, to reassure shoppers despite the more than 300 stores being closed around the country.
