Chief Marketer
we've got a lot to talk about
For the week of april 28, 2019

I’m not ashamed to admit that I’ve binge-watched “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo” on Netflix more than once. There’s something so gratifying about watching someone declutter their home. And don’t get me started on the folding. Oh, the glorious folding!

Turns out, marketers can apply Kondo’s “KonMari” principles to their data strategies, too. This week we’ve got a short four-point checklist on how to purge and organize data, and bring some order to the chaos.

“Avengers: Endgame” hits theaters this week, bringing with it an array of marketing partnerships spanning fast food, CPG and travel. We’ve seen a lot of interesting brand collaborations over the past few years that have been successful because of the unconventional nature of the two brands coming together (think the Forever 21 X Taco Bell fashion collection and fashion show). Movies seem like ripe material for one of these unlikely yet internet-busting pairings. We’ll let you decide if the “Avengers” collaborations hit the mark.

Did you know Kohl’s stores are now selling Amazon merchandise and accepting Amazon returns? We love it when a collaboration addresses a common pain point. And this move is a twofer: making returns easier while also coaxing online shoppers back into retail. Read our brief on the partnership here.

This week we chatted with Wyndham CMO Lisa Checchio about her company’s decision to unite all 20 of its hotel brands under one roof—and the massive marketing effort launching this week to support it. If consolidation or rebranding is on your list (and when isn’t it?), you’ll want to check out Checchio’s plan.

If you’ve been following our month-long series on marketing to the LGBTQ community, you’ll also want to read our last installment highlighting the work AT&T is doing in the space. Last month, AT&T was recognized by the National Business Inclusion Consortium as a Best of the Best Corporation for Inclusion. We talked to Advertising and Creative SVP Valerie Vargas about the company's strategies for reaching the LGBTQ community and creating an inclusive workplace. If you’re just sketching out your diversity & inclusion plan, this is a must-read.

As always, this is just our weekend snapshot of the many stories percolating over at chiefmarketer.com. Check us out for more, and have a terrific weekend.
