Dow Jones Debuts New Business Site

Dow Jones & Co. said yesterday that it has launched Dowjones.com, a portal site for those looking for information, services or Web resources on almost any business issue.

Dowjones.com includes a searchable index of 2,000 sites selected by Dow Jones editors for their business relevance and reliability. Another searchable index of articles is available, though the full-text articles cost $2.95. The site also includes 29 industry-specific channels.

Dow Jones said it is launching the free site with $3 million in sponsorships. Charter sponsors Qwest, Equant and Sun Microsystems occupy premium positions in areas of the site expected to draw frequent visits from target user groups. Fidelity investments is the advertiser sponsoring the investment portfolio. E-commerce arrangements have been struck with Amazon.com, OnVia for office products and services and Gumps.com for executive gifts.

Dow Jones also operates the subscription-based interactive edition of the Wall Street Journal.
