DMA Blasts FTC Do Not Call Fees as “Excessive”

The Federal Trade Commission will amend its Telemarketing Sales Rule, adding an annual fee of $29 per area code for accessing its national do not call registry. The annual fees would be capped at $7,250.

A bulletin released by the FTC on Friday said that callers would be allowed access to up to five area codes for free and sets October 1, 2003 as the effective date for the “do not call” provisions of the amended TSR.
