Direct Sales Jump 37% for Urban Outfitters

Niche clothing and lifestyle retailer Urban Outfitters Inc. posted direct-to-consumer sales of $9.2 million for the second quarter ended July 31, a 37% increase over the $6.7 million reported in the prior year quarter.

The Philadelphia-based company — which operates catalogs, Web sites and stores under the Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie brands — reported total net sales of $122.9 million for the quarter, up 22% from $101 million in the second quarter of 2002.

For the six months ended July 31, direct sales were $18.7 million, versus $13.8 million in the first half of 2002. Total net sales for the six months were $229.9 million, up 18% over the $195 million reported the prior year.
