Dell Expects 8% Boost in Revenues for 2nd Quarter

Dell Computer Corp. is predicting revenues of $8.2 billion during the second quarter, up 8% from a year before.

Dell said in a Tuesday morning earnings call that though the computer direct marketer has seen no rebound in PC demand, it has continued to gain market share. Dell is the No. 2 maker of PCs behind Hewlett-Packard Co.

Dell COO Kevin Rollins also said it was not likely that the company would buy printer maker Lexmark. Dell has said that it wanted to enter the printer business–a profitable area for competitors, according to Reuters.

The Austin, Texas-based company has met or exceeded expectations in the last five quarters. For the first quarter of 2002, which ended May 3, Dell reported revenues of $8.1 billion.
